Expert AVG Review 2018

Overview

When it comes to protecting your computer, AVG makes a great choice in keeping your computer safe against threats. AVG offers two main packages: AVG Antivirus and AVG Internet Security. The first, AVG Antivirus, provides basic PC protection that blocks viruses, spyware, and other malware as well as link protection, “shredding” files, and protection from harmful downloads.

The AVG Internet Security package offers more comprehensive protection that includes antivirus protection, link protection, file shredding, protection from harmful downloads, password and data encryption, anti-spam, and enhanced firewall protection. According to independent IT-security institute, AV TEST, AVG Internet Security scores 5/6 when it comes to protection against malware infections. In the same series of testing, AVG scored a 6/6 when it comes to the software’s impact on the usability of the computer. On the down side, they recently updated their privacy policy so that they may sell customer information to third parties anonymously.

Compatibility

AVG’s most popular packages only protect PC devices. However, they do offer additional packages for Macs and smartphones. Their mobile protection protects both Android and iOS devices. In total, AVG provides many different packages for PC owners that protect both single and multiple devices with Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and WindowsXP. Mac owners can depend on AVG for antivirus and privacy protection.

Spyware, Malware & Ransomware Scans

Malware scans can protect your computer against software that can disrupt operation orgather sensitive information. When it comes to malware protection, AVG performs close to the industry average. AVG's antivirus software offers multiple layers of protection against all types of threats including Ransomware, preventing any problems from the onset.

A recent AV TEST reviewed AVG Internet Security package when protecting against 0-day malware attacks including web and email threats. In two consecutive months, the software protected against 95% of attacks, and then 100% in the following month among 208 samples. That closely meets the industry average of blocking 97% of 0-day malware attacks. When it comes to widespread and prevalent malware discovered in the previous 4 weeks, AVG blocked 98% of threats among 12,207 samples. That compares to an industry average of 99%.

Email Scans

Malicious files can access your computer through email attachments and files. That’s why reliable antivirus software must also provide email protection. As indicated in the AV-TEST from January and February 2015 protected against 95% and 100% of malware threats including through email.

Download Protection

The AVG online shield makes sure that downloading new files won’t damage your computer. Even AVG’s basic Antivirus package offers comprehensive protection by checking files before they’re downloaded.
